POST 9 JAN 29... DESCRIPTION OF MY WORKPLACE

THERE ARE 3 MAIN PEOPLE IN THE OFFICE AND THEN THE BOSS...THEN THERE ARE ABOUT 5 TRUCK DRIVERS. SO NOT ALOT OF PEOPLE WORK THERE BUT IT IS A FRIENDLY PLACE. IT IS A LARGE CORPORATION BUT I ONLY WORK IN THE NEWARK BRANCH. I WILL EXPLAIN IT ONCE AGAIN THEY RENT OUT SAFTEY EQUIPMENT BUT IT TAKES ALOT TO MAKE THIS PLACE RUN AND YOU HAVE TO COMMUNICATE ALOT WITH THE OTHER PEOPLE AROUND YOU SO IM GETTING MORE AND MORE COMMUNICATION SKILLS OTHER THEN JUS SCHOOL. IM WORKPLACE EMPLOYS TRUCK DRIVERS AND OFFICE PEOPLE THATS IT. BECAUSE THATS ALL THAT THEY NEED. IM NOT SURE WHAT TYPE OF DEGREE PEOPLE HAVE BECAUSE I DONT GO AROUND ASKING ALL OF THEM BT I KNOW THAT SOME OF THE PEOPLE IN THE YARD DO NOT HAVE ONE. IT IS LOCATED IN NEWARK. 

POST 8 JAN.21...LOOKING AT OTHER PEOPLES BLOGS

OK SO I LOOKED AT 2 PEOPLES BLOGS AND THEY DONT HAVE ANYTHING. SO I DECIDED THAT I AM NOT GOING TO ANSWER THE BLOG PROMPTS. BUT I WILL TELL YOU HOW MY DAY HAS BEEN. OK SO TODAY WHEN I FIRST CAME IN I STARTED ON A MINI PROJECT WHICH ALSO CONNECTS TO MY BIG PROJECT. TODAY I GOT A FINAL PROJECT AND IT IS A DISPATCHER BOOK WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT THEY REALLY NEED. TODAY I TOOK PICTURES OF ALOT OF TRUCKS AND WROTE DOWN THE LENGTH AND WIDTH OF THE TRUCKS. I GOT ALOT OF INFORMATION.TODAY WS FUN. I ALSO DID THE MAILWHICH I ALWAYS DO. ME AND MY MENTOR ALSO TALKED ABOUT ME COMING IN ON A SATURDAY TO TAKE MORE PICTURES WHEN NOONE IS HERE SO THAT ITS SAFER AND NOT SO BUSY IN THE YARD. THEY HAVE SO MANY PEOPLE MOVING AROUND BIG THINGS THAT IT HARD TO GET WHAT I NEED TO GET SO COMING IN ON THE WEEKEND IS A GOOD IDEA AND I CAN GET MORE HOURS!!...HAHA... 

POST 7 JAN.14...HOW MY PROJECT IS GOING

SO THE PROJECT I WAS GOING TO DO GOT REALLY CONFUSING AND IT WAS SUPER HARD FOR ME TO DO. IT WAS HARD BECAUSE I NEED MORE TRAINING IN WHAT IT IS THAT MY PROJECT WAS ABOUT. SO TODAY WE SWITCHED MY PROJECT AND I FEEL VERY GOOD ABOUT IT. I UNDERSTAND BETTER NOW OF WHAT IT IS THAT I NEED TO DO. WHILE DOING THIS NEW PROJECT IM NOT GETTING LOST AND I AM ABLE TO KEEP UP. THIS MORNING I WAS WORKING ON THE OLD PROJECT BUT I HAD NO IDEA WHY I WAS DOING CERTIN THINGS OR WHAT ITIS THAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. BUT NOW ITS BETTER ME AND MY MENTOR TALKED ABOUT AND ITS ALL FIGURED OUT.

POST 6 JAN 7...MENTOR INTERVIEW

POST 5 DEC 17...HOURS AND PROJECT

TODAY WAS KIND OIF SLOW NOT ALOT WAS GOING ON. THERE WASNT EVEN ALOT OF PHONE CALLS TODAY LIKE USUAL. I JUST DID MY NORMAL WORK DAY, THE MAIL, CHECKING FOR INVOICED CONTRACTS, AND FILING THE ONES THAT ARE INVOICED. I ACCOMPLISHED ALL THE WORK THAT WAS GIVEN TO ME WHICH IS NOT ALWAY7S EASY!! IM ON TRACK WITH ALL OF MY HOURS SO IM NOIT FALLING BEHIND LIKE LAST YEAR!  SO FOR MY PROECT WE HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT WHAT IT IS THAT I COULD DO, BECAUSE THERE ARE CERTIAN THINGS THAT I CANNOT DO, DO TO SAFTY REASONS. BUT MY PROJECT IS ABOUT THEIR INVENTORY, WHICH IS HARDER THEN IT SEEMS TO BE. THERE ARE ALOT OF PICTURES TO GO THROUGH. I DO NOT YET HAVE PHOTOS BUT I AM PLANNING TO GET THEM NEXT WEEK FOR MY PRESENTATION.

POST 4 DEC 10..."LEADERSHIP SKILLS"

COMPLETEING PROJECTS EFFECTIVLEY, BESCAUSE I HAVE ALOT OF WORK TO DO EVERYTIME THAT I COME HERE SO I NEED TO ALWAYS BE ON TOP OF MY GAME WHEN IT COMES TO WORKING! COMMUNICATE POWERFULLY IS SOMETHING THAT I FEEL THAT IS DONE OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM, BECAUSE YOU ARE LEARNING HOW TO TALK TO       PEOPLE THAT YOU HAVE NEVER TALKED TO BEFORE AND YOU HAVE TO COME OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE IF YOU WANT TO BE HEARD. COLLABORATE PRODUCTIVELY IS ONE THAT I HAVE LEARNED AT IMPACT AND THAT I AM NOW USING IN MY INTERNSHIP. I USING IT BECAUSE I HAVE TO TALK TO JAE AND SHIRLINA WHEN I NEED HELP ON THINGS AND ME AND JAE WORK TOGETHER. AS  A STUDENT IM NOT PROFESSIONAL I JUST GO TO SCHOOL AND DO WHAT I GOTTA DO, BUT BEING AN INTERN I AM MORE PROFESSIONAL AND I DONT SLACK OFF OR MESS AROUND LIKE I WOULD IN SCHOOL.

Post 2: Very Time Consuming 11.12.10

Today as soon as I walked in Jae had things for me to do. It took me most of the day to finish my first assignment. But by doing so it made me realize that working in the real world is sometimes boring but those are things that need to be done whether or not you want to do them. I then had to make sure that the rentals were correct in the computer. At the end of the day i like working there, because there is always something for me to do and im never just sitting there! I actually like going to my WLE this year. The people that work there are really nice, and  they make me feel like part of the crew!

How I got my WLE: Oct 26th.

Well in the summer, Jae contacted me and asked if I would like to work with her and that it would be a good experience, and a chance for me to see what a stressful job is like. The decision of me being able to be an intern had to go through the boss, and the corprate, to make sure it was ok for me to intern there, because i am the first person to intern at trench rentals. I didnt use any leadership skills to find an internship because they found me, but when im working there I use productive collaboration, and manage projects effectivly.
My mentor is Jae. She has been a friend of the familes since before i was born. I will be working for trench plate rentals in newark. I will be doing alot of organiztion, and doing invoice, and starting my project which will take me along time. Also I hope to be going on ride alongs with the drivers to get first hand experience with what they do outside the office. And I might be going some saturdays which should be fun.

Post 13: How My WLE Project Is Going

This week I didnt work on my project because I was really busy with other things in the shop. I made T-Shirts for the first time today for a client!!. It took alot longer then i thought it would. Its not just a five minute job. I was standing up for four hours just to make 65 shirts for Eldridge school. After all the shirts were folded and ready to go I felt so accomplished. I never thought that I would be able to do it. It feels good to know that something I took my time doing, somebody was enjoying wearing. My work is on someones back!! This is so much different then just finishing a school project or getting an A on a test. Its a sence of accomplishment that not many people get the chance to have.
Im a little bit behind in my hours but I am planning on going everyday this week after school for 3 hours which will get me caught up.

Post 12: How My WLE Project Is Going

So for my WLE project I am making an advisory shirt which will have everyones name on the back and on the front it will say Ms.B advisory. Im excited about this project because no one else has done it so far. I started it at the beginning of my internship so I dont have alot of work let to do just some touch ups here and there.

Post 10: The Hardships Behind A Business

Today I felt like I was going non stop!! I was doing 2 jobs at once. That was fun though because it gave me a challenge, which I need. The ball just kept rolling and didnt stop. I always had something to do, I was never bored! If everyday was like today I would want to be her at my WLE everyday! So once again I was putting the stickers on the bags while timmy was packaging the masks. Everybody in the shop was busy. It was cool to see all of us working together and making sure that we got a lot accomplished. It was a good environment for me to be in. While i was putting the stickers on I was also going back and forth taking the shirts off the dryer and putting them in size order. Sometimes the shirts would come 20 at a time so I had to be fast! After all the shirts were put in order I had to put them on a cart, but each shirts had to be lined up with each other so that the person who was printing the shirts could grab them easier and get the shirts ready to be printed on again. I also got to print a shirt that I made, my own design, my creation, that no one else has! So I was SUPER happy when I got to do that at the end of the day. So far I have 50.51 hours of work time. My plan for catching up is to come in over spring break so I could be on task with were I am supposed to be as of now.  

Post 9: My First Time Printing A mask!! 

Ok so today kind of started off slow but as the day went on I had a lot of work to do!. I learned how to put the stickers on the bags that we package the masks in and how to screen print. I never realized how hard it was to make a business run, and keep it running. It is very time consuming putting the stickers on the bags and putting the masks in the bags and then stapling on fabric samples. It takes a really long time to have a complete and finished product! Wow screen printing looked so much easier then I thought it actually is. Today was my first time printing a mask and it was super duper hard!!. The amount of pressure that you have to have to make sure that the paint comes through the little holes is crazy! I now have so much more respect for the person that stands there all day doing that because I know that their arms must be hurting! I also wrote out some of my goals that I want to accomplish, which is very helpful because now I can set little goals for myself and achieve the bigger ones! My WLE project will be to make an advisory shirt. Everyone's name that is in my advisory will be on the back of the shirt. On the front im not really sure yet so im still thinking about that. I want our advisory shirt to be different then other shirts people have seen.

Post 3: My First day on the job!

So my first day was cool. I really got a chance to see all the hard work it takes to make a business run. It was interesting to know that its not as easy as it looks. It takes time and hard work just to print out a shirt. Both of my mentors are really chill and laid back which is a good thing because then i don't get stressed out and I am able to do my work. My WLE was just how I thought it would be. Its fun and keeps me going. There is never any down time. There is always something to do which makes my day go by faster!. I also like working there because I am the only girl to work there so thats a cool thing. I was most surprised to see hoe laid back my mentors are. They are not always over my back and checking what I am doing, and that makes me feel strong in what I am doing for them. 

Post 1: How I plan to get my WLE: January

Right now I am looking to intern at the HIV and AIDS prevention center. The things that I have done to try and find an internship are, calling people on the phone, and e-mailing. Last week on Wednesday from 8:10 till 12:35 i was trying to contact people who would be interested in having an internship. So now I am e-mailing back and forth to a possible internship.I should find out really soon if it will be official
